Simon Cook

Simon Cook has experience in a wide variety of banking and finance transactions, including in particular in relation to structured trade finance, trade finance, project finance, invoice discounting facilities and borrowing-base facilities in Africa, the Middle East, Asia and the CIS. His work in the structured trade area covers a range of pre-export and prepayment financings acting for both lenders and borrowers notably in oil, telecoms, soft commodities and metals sectors with particular experience in Africa and the Middle East. Simon has worked and travelled extensively in Africa and the Middle East, having spent over three and a half years in Dubai. He has participated in a number of structured trade finance and project finance conferences and seminars throughout Europe, the Middle East and Africa, including speaking at conferences on PPP in South Africa; on project finance and structured trade finance at Afrexim's annual structured finance conferences in Egypt, Ghana, Zambia and South Africa; and at structured trade finance seminars and general finance in London, Paris, Lisbon, Geneva, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, South Africa, Zambia, Uganda, Ghana, Nairobi and Dubai.

Sullivan Celebrates Six Years in London

The London office of international law firm Sullivan was celebrating the completion of its sixth successful year in London last night, at its annual party.

The event was held at Paul, at the ground floor entrance to Tower 42, the home of Sullivan’s London office in the City.

Over 150 guests enjoyed music, magic and a gin bar until late in the evening, with a few continuing until the small hours.

Sullivan UK Ranked in the 2020 Edition of The Legal 500 UK

Leading independent legal directory, The UK Legal 500, 2020, was published last night. In the Trade Finance category Sullivan is ranked, for the sixth consecutive year, in the top tier.

Geoffrey Wynne is included in the UK Legal 500 ‘Hall of Fame’ 2020 for his trade finance experience, and both Simon Cook and Mark Norris are listed as ‘Leading Individuals’. New ITFA Guide to IFRS 9 for the Trade Receivables and Supply Chain Finance Industry

ITFA has published "A guide to accounting and legal issues under IFRS 9 for the trade receivables and supply chain finance industry."

These are ITFA's first set of guidelines on the standards aimed solely at the trade and supply chain finance industry, since the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) issued IFRS 9, which came into force on January 1, 2018.

Updated New York Law Master Participation Agreement & Guidelines Published

International financial services association BAFT (the Bankers Association for Finance & Trade), together with ITFA (the International Trade and Forfaiting Association) have published an updated New York law Master Participation Agreement (NY MPA) and associated guidelines. BAFT, together with ITFA, put together a working group of experts to review the existing form and identify changes based on current market practice.

The firm will now be known as "Sullivan" and, in conjunction with the name change, has revealed a bold, striking logo intended to graphically symbolise the forward-thinking and creative approach that the firm brings to client matters.

"Sullivan has always been a firm of innovative and strategic thinkers with a keen focus on getting positive outcomes for our clients. Our new brand and logo capture our firm’s energy," said Joel Carpenter, managing partner of Sullivan.
